Overview
Tahor is a personal cycle-tracking app designed for Jewish women. We built it with privacy as a core principle: your personal and health data never leaves your device and is never transmitted to us or any third party, with the single exception described below (location for zmanim calculation).
What Data Tahor Stores
All of the following is stored locally on your device only, using your device's secure local storage (AsyncStorage). It is never uploaded to any server or cloud service.
- Cycle start dates and times
- Hefsek taharah dates
- Seven clean day (shivah nekiyim) records
- Mikvah completion dates
- Bedikah (internal examination) logs and notes
- Veset dates calculated from your cycle history
- App settings and preferences
We have no servers. We receive none of this data. No one does.
Location
Tahor optionally requests access to your device's location solely to calculate accurate zmanim (Jewish times — specifically sunset and nightfall) for your city.
When you grant location permission:
- Your approximate coordinates (rounded to ~1km precision) are sent to HebCal (hebcal.com), a free Jewish calendar service, to retrieve sunset/nightfall times for your date and location.
- The result is cached on your device and reused to minimize requests.
- Your coordinates are not stored on any Tahor server — we have none.
- You can revoke location access at any time in your device Settings. The app will fall back to a default time (7:00 PM) for reminders.
HebCal's privacy policy is available at: https://www.hebcal.com/home/privacy-policy
If you do not grant location permission, the app functions fully — only sunset-based reminders will use a fixed default time.
Biometric Authentication (Face ID / Touch ID)
If you enable the biometric lock feature:
- Authentication is handled entirely by your device's operating system (iOS Face ID / Touch ID).
- Tahor never accesses, stores, or transmits your biometric data.
- Biometric data never leaves your device.
Notifications
Tahor sends local notifications only — scheduled directly on your device for reminders about hefsek taharah, bedikot, veset days, and mikvah night. These notifications are generated entirely on your device. No notification server or push infrastructure is involved.
What We Do Not Do
- We do not collect analytics or usage data
- We do not use advertising networks or trackers
- We do not create user accounts
- We do not access your contacts, camera, microphone, or photos
- We do not share any data with third parties (except the HebCal API coordinates described above)
- We do not sell data — there is nothing to sell
Children
Tahor is intended for adult users. We do not knowingly collect any information from anyone under the age of 13.
Data Deletion
Because all data is stored locally on your device, you can delete all Tahor data at any time by:
- Using the Clear All Data option in Settings → Privacy, or
- Simply deleting the Tahor app from your device
Either action permanently removes all cycle records, bedikah logs, and settings from your device.
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. Since the app has no account system, we recommend checking this page periodically.
